Where is Munnar?

The
small but beautiful forested town of Munnar is located in the state of
Kerala in South India. The hill station (5,250 ft above sea-level) lies in
the Idukki district, at the confluence of mountain streams Mudrapuzha,
Nallathanni and Kundala.
How will you gain access?
Kochi (110 km/ 3 hours) is the closest airport from Munnar. The airport can
be easily reached by the local means of road transport from the town. Kochi
is the nearest railhead as well, connecting itself to all the key
destination of India. A good road-network links Munnar with places like
Madurai, Coimbatore and the other towns and cities of the state.
What magnetises people?
» Anaimudi Peak
The Anaimudi Peak is the highest peak in South India. With an elevation of
2,695 m, the peak is an excellent option for camping and trekking. Nature
enthusiasts, travellers and tourists pour into the place to indulge in
adventure activities and to have some magnificent views from its slopes.
» Nyayamakad
Nyayamakad is located at a distance of 10 km from Munnar. It is home to a
number of splendid waterfalls, cascading down from a height of 1600 m. The
place is fit for picnic spots and attracts a huge number of visitors and
picnickers from all around. It is also a fabulous trekking point.
» Echo Point
One can visit the Echo Point on one's way to Top Station from Munnar. The
scenic site is located at a distance of 15 km from Munnar. The place derives
its name from the echo phenomenon here.
» Rajamala
About 15 km from Munnar is a place called Rajamala. Perched at an elevation
of 2,695 m, it is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (Rock goat). The
total number of the Nilgiri Tahrs in Rajamala is calculated to be over 1300.
It is a must-see site for the visitors.
What are the adventures in store?
Get an official trekking permit from the Divisional Forest Office and go
trekking, experiencing some wonderful moments of your life. You need not
worry about the permit as your travel agent will arrange for it. There are
numerous short treks all around, Lockheart Gap being the most famous of all.
There are several mountain streams and brooks that will provide you with
good angling options. To add to the list are options of boating, cycling,
canoeing, paragliding and mountaineering.

Hill Resort (130 km from airport) offers conference hall, restaurant, bar,

What is the best time?
Munnar experiences a cool weather all the year round. The winter months
from September to March are the best time to visit, explore and enjoy what
awaits you here. However, the temperature can drop down to a minimum of 5
degrees centigrade.
