Where is Kollam?
Kollam is located in the state of Kerala in southern India. It lies on the
Malabar Coast, with the Ashtamudi Lake covering 30 percent of it. It is
positioned at a distance of 17 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital
of the state.
How will you gain access?
Thiruvananthapuram (71 km) is the closest airport from Kollam. Being an
important railhead of the Southern Railways, Kollam is well-connected by
rail-route to all the major destinations of the country. There is a fabulous
road-network that links Kollam to the major town and cities inside and
outside the state. There are regular bus services available from here. NH
47, NH 206 and NH 101 provide excellent links.

» Ashtamudi Lake
The celebrated Ashtamudi Lake is located in the Kollam district of Kerala.
It attracts tourists and visitors in hordes. The lake is one's entrance to
the magnificent backwaters of the state. A cruise along the lake is simply
breathtaking. The incredible environs and the exquisite sights are sure to
astonish one and all.
» Thangasseri
The seaside village of Thangasseri is historically very significant. Here
one can find the ruins of an old Portuguese Fort and churches erected in the
18th century. The 144-feet high Thangasseri Lighthouse is no less attraction
for the visitors.
» Thirumullavaram Beach
Heading 6 km north of Kollam, one comes to the beautiful Thirumullavaram
beach. It is an idyllic picnic spot. Visitors and picnickers come here in
large numbers to spend some quality time.
» Mayyand
10 km south of Kollam is located Mayyand. The place is known for its
shrines and temples. The Subramanya Temple is the most important of the nine
temples here at Umayanallor.

Kollam has a tropical humid climate. Summer extends from March till May.
June to September is the time of the southwest monsoons. Kollam remains dry

is between the months of October and March.
